1-3) Sunday, June 22, 2008 Worship – How do you even start to get a handle on a word in English that can mean romantic love, a title of respect in a courtroom, a religious service, a music style, different church rituals, and even false religion that honors human sacrifice? Actually, there is no Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek word that in the Scripture lines up exactly with the usage of our English word “worship.” Therefore, why not begin at the beginning and let God’s revelation in the Scriptures begin to paint its own picture of what it means when it talks to us about the connection between God and man and their response to one another. |

But while we’re spending all this time with them, how do we react when our heavenly kids act like demons? At fifty the countdown towards 65 begins and, for many Americans, retirement is that dream time filled with travel, pleasure, and relaxation. Now it might be the time when you can stop putting in 12 hour days at the office or at the stick of a bull dozer, but does God give the senior citizens in His household time off until He calls them home? What did Jesus teach us about a true time perspective about life? |

MOTHER'S DAY: Let Them Fly (1
Samuel 1:1-28) Sunday, May 11th, 2008 It’s an old story, but a good one, and a true one. A man has two wives. (It didn’t work out any better in the ancient world than it does in the 21st Century.) His two wives are fighting (of course) and it’s all over having babies. One of his wives has a ton of them, and the other has none. Throw in a priest who is so out of touch that he mistakes fervent prayer for inebriated nonsense and some soaring poetry, and you have all the makings of a block buster. On this Mother’s Day, let’s take a look at Hannah, the childless wife who became the mother of Samuel, the prophet. Here is one mother who knew what it meant to teach her son to fly without hanging on to his mother’s apron strings. |
